REGISTRATION

  • Attendees will have the option to participate in-person at the London Hunt Club (limited to the capacity of the venue) or virtually over Zoom!
    *Masking is not mandatory, but is highly recommended by the London Hunt Club at this time
    **We hope to accommodate all in-person requests, but depending on venue capacity and COVID-19 trends, we may ask attendees to participate virtually 
  • Cocktail reception for in-person attendees will begin at 5:30 PM
  • Formal presentation will begin at 6:30 PM, which will be streamed over Zoom for virtual attendees

FOR THOSE PARTICIPATING VIRTUALLY:

  • Link for the 6:30 PM (ET) virtual ceremony will be provided via email to all virtual attendees one day before the event
  • Virtual attendees who register by May 6th will receive an “Event in a Bag” delivered to them prior to the event to enhance the virtual Laudable Londoners experience.
    **Virtual attendees are welcome to register after May 6th, however, we cannot guarantee package delivery.
  • For those who purchase a book to be signed, we will ship the signed book to you

 

ABOUT THE HONOUREE:

Born in Dublin, Emma Donoghue is an award-winning playwright, screenwriter and novelist who has made her home in London, Ontario since 1998.

Donoghue was born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1969. She has a first-class honours Bachelor of Arts degree from University College Dublin, and a PhD in English from Girton College, Cambridge. At Cambridge, she met her future partner Christine Roulston, a Canadian who is a professor of French and Women’s Studies at Western University. They live in London, Ontario, with their two children, Finn and Una.

Donoghue values libraries for providing equitable access to reading materials, information and technology for everyone in the community. She has held readings at Landon Branch, her neighbourhood library, and in more recent years at Central Library’s Wolf Performance Hall as her fame and audiences have grown. On a personal level, she and her family are avid readers and big library fans who have spent many hours at London Public Library locations, including participating in the annual Speaking with Friends fundraiser. She is also a strong supporter of the Grand Theatre.
Through her writing Donoghue highlights and portrays many social issues that affect not only Londoners but society across the world.

Donoghue a truly global citizen having contributed significant philanthropy to charitable organizations worldwide. Examples of these include the donation of her Giller runner up prize winnings to the Canadian Feed the Children’s food security programming in Indigenous communities. She has very generously donated the royalties of her children’s series The Lotterys to Room to Read an organization that supports literacy and girls’ education in Asia and Africa. She also donated her prize winnings from The Ireland Funds to the UN refugee Agency.

Her international bestseller Room won the Rogers Writers Trust and Commonwealth Prizes and was a finalist for the Man Booker and Orange; the screenplay of the 2015 film won her Oscar, Golden Globe and Bafta nominations. She adapted Room for the stage with songs by Cora Bissett and Kathryn Joseph. Donoghue co-wrote the forthcoming Netflix film The Wonder based on her Giller-nominated 2016 novel. Her other books include Akin, Frog Music, Landing ,The Sealed Letter, (for younger readers) The Lotterys series, the recently published Pull of The Stars, and Haven (coming in August).
