Showdown in the Downtown, a yearly fundraising event featuring Muay Thai and mixed martial arts, was founded by Dr. Rehman in 2009. Given its tremendous success, the beneficiaries of the event have expanded to providers helping to alleviate homelessness and mental health conditions, as well as those that help serve individuals with complex conditions living in the community.  Over 15 years, the event has raised over $3 million for a variety of charities.

“Dr. Rehman’s leadership with Showdown in the Downtown has done so much good for so many Londoners,” said PHSS President and CEO, Brian Dunne. “PHSS has been honored to receive grants from Showdown in the Downtown for the last several years – money which has gone to help individuals with some very complex medical needs overcome challenges and thrive right here in London communities. We are deeply thankful for this continued support”.

PHSS was founded in 1988, by London area families who had loved ones with developmental, medical or complex needs, and who wanted to be able to offer them the opportunity to live independently with support. Since then, the Agency has grown to over 75 locations, most of which continue to be in London and the surrounding area. PHSS is one of the few organizations capable of supporting individuals requiring long-term ventilation (LTV) in the community, offering an enhanced quality of life for individuals, while freeing-up crucial space in hospital intensive care units (ICUs).

“PHSS is such an important part of London’s health and social care systems,” said Dr. Rehman. “The medical and complex care they provide is essential to the lives of many London families. Showdown in the Downtown is pleased to able to be able to shine a light on their good works with this donation.”

The $10,000 grant will go towards supporting the PHSS ‘Staff Support in Hospital’ fund. PHSS is one of the very few agencies that continues to send support staff with individuals while they are in hospital. The $10,000 grant will help family members know there is a trusted, familiar face with their loved one during stressful hospital visits.

Both Dr. Rehman and PHSS CEO, Brian Dunne, are available to speak on the impact of this donation, in reply to media inquiries.
